Amflow TL Carbon Perth | Test Ride at Solar Bike Fremantle

September 23, 2026 · Matt Timmins · Posted in Uncategorized ·

We’ve just received a couple of the first Amflow TLs. They are quite spectacular for $5600 worth of bike. This bike really sells itself as more of an all-rounder bike than a high performance ebike made for big tabletops. While you could get away with quite a bit of performance jumping, the PX would be better for that. This is more for a tourer. This is the perfect bike if you were wanting to consider a ride such as the Munda Biddi. Here is a much more detailed breakdown of the models. Currently we have 4 models on the floor (pictured below) and we would be happy to run you through all of them. These include the original PL, the sleeker PX and PR and now the TL. Please read below for a more detailed review of these.

The TL is nearly as interesting as the PL – when Amflow first emerged sporting the DJI mid-drive motor. Following the success of the Amflow PL, and the introduction of the more performance-focused PX and PR platforms, the Amflow TL Carbon takes Amflow in a completely new direction.

Rather than building another dedicated electric mountain bike, Amflow has created what it calls an “SUV e-bike” – a lightweight, full-carbon, full-suspension electric bike designed to move comfortably between commuting, touring, gravel roads, bike paths and recreational trail riding.

What is the Amflow TL?

The easiest way to understand the TL is this:

It is the practical Amflow.

The PX and PR are fundamentally performance electric mountain bikes. The TL takes much of the technology that has made the Amflow range so impressive and packages it into a bike designed to be used every day.

It still has a full-carbon frame.

It still has full suspension.

It still has the exceptionally powerful and compact Avinox drive system.

But the TL adds features such as a removable 800Wh battery, rear rack, mudguards, integrated lighting, cargo capability and compatibility with panniers and bike trailers.

The result is an e-bike that could take you to work during the week, along the coast on Saturday morning and onto gravel roads or trails on Sunday.

For many riders, that versatility could make the TL the most useful bike in the entire Amflow range.

The Avinox M2 Motor – 125Nm of Torque

At the heart of the Amflow TL is the Avinox M2 drive unit.

It produces up to 125Nm of maximum torque and up to 1,100W peak output, despite the motor itself weighing only around 2.65kg.

That is a remarkable amount of assistance for a bike that remains relatively light.

The result is particularly noticeable when climbing hills, accelerating from low speeds or carrying additional weight.

This isn’t simply a commuter e-bike with a little assistance added to the pedals. The TL has serious power available when you need it.

At the same time, the Avinox system remains highly configurable through the Avinox Ride app, allowing riders to customise the assistance characteristics to suit how and where they ride.

800Wh Removable Battery

One of the biggest differences between the TL and some of Amflow’s performance-focused models is the battery.

The TL comes standard with an 800Wh removable Avinox RS800 battery.

Amflow quotes a maximum laboratory-tested range of up to approximately 172km under specific Eco-mode test conditions. Real-world range will naturally vary significantly with terrain, rider weight, assistance level, wind, tyre pressure and riding style.

More importantly, the battery can be removed from the bike.

That makes the TL much more practical for riders who can’t easily take the whole bike inside to charge it.

Park the bike in the garage or apartment bike store, remove the battery and charge it elsewhere.

It also opens the possibility of carrying or swapping batteries for much longer adventures.

A 600Wh battery is also compatible, while Amflow’s optional 480Wh secondary battery can take the system to an enormous 1,280Wh total capacity when paired with the standard 800Wh battery.

For touring and long-distance riding, that is a significant advantage.

Full Carbon – But Still Only Around 22.6kg

Utility e-bikes can become very heavy very quickly.

The TL takes a different approach.

Its full-carbon frame weighs approximately 2.9kg, and the bike can weigh as little as around 22.6kg with accessories removed.

In its complete standard configuration with the practical equipment fitted, the weight is higher, but it remains remarkably light considering the battery capacity, motor performance, suspension and carrying capability.

That lower weight makes a difference everywhere – manoeuvring the bike around the garage, lifting it onto a rack, changing direction on a trail and simply riding without assistance.

Full Suspension: 120mm Front / 105mm Rear

The TL uses a full-suspension design co-developed with FOX, with:

120mm front suspension travel
105mm rear suspension travel

The standard specification includes a FOX AWL Sport fork and FOX FLOAT Rhythm rear shock tuned for the TL.

This is an important distinction between the TL and the more aggressive Amflow mountain bikes.

The TL isn’t trying to be an enduro bike.

Instead, its suspension is aimed at creating a comfortable, controlled bike across a very wide range of surfaces.

Around Fremantle that could mean everything from Adelaide Street and the cycle paths to rougher limestone tracks, gravel roads and weekend trails.

27.5-inch or 29-inch Wheels – You Choose

One particularly clever feature of the TL is its wheel compatibility.

Both the front and rear can accommodate 27.5-inch or 29-inch wheels.

That means the bike can be configured as:

27.5 / 27.5
29 / 29
29 front / 27.5 rear
or even 27.5 front / 29 rear.

The standard 27.5-inch configuration provides easy handling and a relatively low bike, while 29-inch wheels can improve rollover characteristics for riders spending more time on rough surfaces.

It’s another example of how configurable the TL platform is.

Electronic Shifting

Another interesting feature is the TL’s TRP E.A.S.I. electronic drivetrain, which works with the Avinox system.

The system can coordinate the motor and gear change, briefly managing motor torque during shifting to reduce drivetrain shock.

It can also perform shifts without requiring the rider to be actively pedalling.

For an e-bike producing this much torque, that’s particularly useful.

High-powered mid-drive motors can place considerable loads through chains and drivetrains if the rider changes gears aggressively under power. Integrating the motor and derailleur allows the system to make those shifts more controlled.

Four-Piston Hydraulic Brakes

Braking is handled by Tektro four-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors.

One early independent first-ride review noted that the brakes on its near-new test bike didn’t feel as convincing as the rest of the package. We’ll be interested to see how the production bikes perform once properly bedded in.

For most road, commuting and recreational trail use, the four-piston system should provide plenty of braking capability, although riders intending to regularly tackle long, steep and heavily loaded descents may understandably compare this setup with the more powerful premium braking systems fitted to higher-end Amflow mountain bikes.

Built to Carry Up to 200kg

This is where the TL really separates itself from the PL, PX and PR.

The TL has a maximum permitted total weight of approximately 200kg, including the bicycle, rider and cargo.

The rear rack is compatible with the MIK HD system and is rated to carry up to approximately 27kg, while an optional front rack can carry up to approximately 20kg.

You can add panniers.

You can attach a compatible bike trailer.

And the rear rack’s MIK HD compatibility opens up a large ecosystem of accessories.

This transforms the Amflow concept from purely recreational eMTB into a bike that can genuinely replace the car for some trips.

Amflow TL vs PL vs PX vs PR

So where does the TL fit into the Amflow family?

The Amflow PL established the brand’s reputation. It combined a lightweight carbon chassis with huge Avinox performance and showed that a powerful eMTB didn’t necessarily have to feel like a heavy conventional electric mountain bike.

The newer Amflow PX develops the lightweight, performance-oriented concept further. It’s the model for riders whose priority is mountain biking – climbing quickly, descending hard and keeping overall weight low.

The Amflow PR moves toward more aggressive all-mountain and enduro riding. Its removable battery adds practicality, while its geometry and component choices are focused more heavily on demanding off-road riding.

And then there is the TL.

The TL isn’t trying to beat those bikes down a technical descent.

Instead, it asks a different question:

What if you want one Amflow to do almost everything?

That’s where the TL makes sense.

If your riding consists of commuting, bike paths, weekend rides, touring, gravel roads, rail trails, carrying equipment and occasional mountain-bike trails, the TL may actually be the more appropriate bike.

It gives up some of the specialist suspension and componentry of Amflow’s more aggressive mountain bikes in exchange for considerably more everyday versatility.

TL vs PX: Which One?

Choose the PX if your primary objective is mountain-bike performance and minimum weight.

Choose the TL if your riding is broader.

The PX Carbon Pro can be equipped with premium components such as FOX Factory suspension, SRAM X0 Eagle Transmission, high-end brakes and carbon wheels.

The TL deliberately uses more practical componentry.

But the TL gives you things the PX isn’t primarily designed around: a removable 800Wh battery, integrated mudguards, rack, lights, huge carrying capacity and touring capability.

They are really designed for different riders.

TL vs PR: Which One?

The PR sits between the lightweight PX philosophy and a more aggressive all-mountain/enduro eMTB.

Like the TL, the PR offers a removable battery, but its suspension, geometry and component choices are far more trail focused.

If your weekends involve technical singletrack and harder descents, look closely at the PR.

If your weekends might involve riding from Fremantle down the coast, loading panniers onto the bike, exploring gravel tracks and then riding it to work on Monday morning, look closely at the TL.

What We Like About the Amflow TL

What impresses us most isn’t one individual specification.

It’s how the specifications come together.

A full-carbon frame, 125Nm Avinox motor, 800Wh removable battery, full suspension, electronic shifting and serious cargo capacity would normally describe a very heavy bike.

The TL isn’t.

And that fundamentally changes what the bike can be used for.

It’s powerful without feeling like a motorcycle disguised as a bicycle.

It’s practical without feeling like a traditional trekking bike.

And it can carry cargo without becoming a dedicated cargo bike.

That’s a difficult combination to achieve.

Who Should Consider an Amflow TL?

We think the TL will be particularly interesting for riders who want a premium e-bike but don’t want to own separate bikes for commuting, touring and recreational riding.

It’s particularly suited to:

Daily commuting – comfortable full suspension, mudguards, lighting and rack.

Long recreational rides – large 800Wh battery and comfortable geometry.

Touring – pannier, rack and trailer compatibility plus the option for enormous battery capacity.

Gravel and rail trails – full suspension and configurable wheel sizes.

Light-to-moderate mountain biking – genuine full-suspension capability without turning the bike into an aggressive enduro machine.

Car replacement duties – substantial carrying capacity combined with a powerful motor.

Riders who want one premium e-bike to do almost everything.

Kid electric bike

September 28, 2025 · Matt Timmins · Posted in Uncategorized ·

Whilst kids should be encouraged to pedal, every now and then there is a good reason to make a kid’s electric bike. This was a Norco 26″ mountain bike that we put a kit on. It serves a purpose so this cool guy can go electric mountain bike riding with his Dad, who also rides an electric mountain bike. They’ve been having loads of funs in the hills and trails. Surprisingly, children tend to be a lot more cautious than adults at this age and tend to only use the motor uphill when needed. Allows everyone to have loads of fun outdoors! Please note this isn’t for riding on the road, kids need to legally be 16 for riding on the road but on the trails it’s all fair game.

If you’re looking for a more production line model for a child then XDS are now doing an attractive model. Click here to see.

Fatboy Bikes

September 13, 2025 · Matt Timmins · Posted in Uncategorized ·

We’ve recently started stocking the Fatboy Bikes. These are pretty popular now for teens, parents of kids and bogans. They have fat 20″ tyres, usually around 4″ wide and are actually pretty fun to ride around. They are sturdy enough for parents of young kids to use as a type of cargo bike with their extended seat and foot-pegs and cool enough for teens and bogans to ride around with a smile instead of a snarl. Fatboy have jumped onto this trending style of ebike to bring in a few of their own models. They are the Harlem, the Scrambler and the Bagus. All pictured below. They have taken a typical Alibaba ebike and tweaked it to have good brakes, improved battery characteristics, off road/unroad toggles and picked up on the latest trending styles of these fat bikes making headlines around the world for often nefarious reasons.

Amflow Electric Mountain Bikes

March 12, 2025 · Matt Timmins · Posted in Uncategorized ·

We’re super excited that the Amflow ebikes have finally arrived! These are one of the best electric mountain bikes available in the world currently. They are extremely light and responsive and feel as close to a regular mountain bike as we’ve ever experienced – apart from the awesome power boost.

These bikes are the first to come out with the motor from DJI, the world’s biggest and best known recreational drone manufacturer. They’ve named it the Avinox system, you can read all about it here. It’s a light weight, relatively high power mid-drive ebike system. The motor weighs 2.52kg and is capable of bursts of 850W peak power and 105 Nm continuous torque.

The battery is integrated into the down-tube of the frame and comes in two configurations of 800Wh and 600Wh, weighing 3.74 kg and 2.87 kg respectively. For the extra 1 kg, it’d be highly recommended to choose the higher capacity battery for the 25% extra riding range. There is a fast charger so that you can charge to 75% capacity in 1.5 hours.

The display sits above the top tube of the bike with function toggles on both hands. It’s a bright display that is touch sensitive and displays information including speed, distance, gradient, torque, estimate range, motor power and cyclist power. You can ride it in various power modes. These are auto, eco, trail and turbo. In any of these modes you can hold the toggle button down for around a second and it will enter boost mode for 30 seconds to give you maximum power.

Of course there is an app. It connects via bluetooth and allows you to customise various parameters, unlock the bike, see riding statistics, map your ride and access bike diagnostics. You can also put a SIM card into the bike to allow GPS based bike tracking.

There are currently only two models available. They are both Carbon and use the same frame, battery and motor. The two models are called the Amflow PL Carbon and the more expensive one is the Amflow PL Carbon Pro. You can see the full specs by clicking here on these models. Sean the Sheep’s Solar Powered bike

September 7, 2024 · Matt Timmins · Posted in Uncategorized ·

Say a congratulations to Sean. He’s travelled from NZ to Melbourne to Adelaide to Darwin to down the west coast of Australia to Fremantle to pop in for a spare tube. He’s built himself a solar-powered recumbent. He has a panel on top and a trailer that carries another spare panel and some camping equipment. This has a rear hub motor and 400W of panels in total. Sean reliably informs me that in the sun he can cruise at a touch over 40km/h and the panels are actually putting in a little extra energy into his battery pack. Quite remarkable journey. He travels up to 200km a day on this with power from the sun and pain-au-chocolat whenever he can find one. Nice effort!
